Judging the goalscoring/assists stats, career achievements and longevity at the highest level I already consider Messi and CR7 the best players ever perhaps alongside with Pelé (although I have many reserves about Pelé and his inflated stats vs questionable opponents) but if I judge by how good they were at their peak and capability of winning a match/tournament on their own then Maradona And Ronaldo fenómeno are hard to beat at their peak.

Yes i agree. But i think Ronaldo nazario prime was above the other 3 .Because he was unstopable. Its a mixture of Henry speed ronaldinho dribling and romario finishing

Messi and CR7 were wingers at the beginning of their careers, Messi only started to play as false 9 with Guardiola and CR7 even later in a more central position...but I agree R9 was scary ASF before the injury, no one would be surprised if he picked the ball in midfield and went all the way passing the defenders as they weren't there. He also played in a more violent era with great defenders (especially in Italy), they would kick the shit out of him to stop him, something that Messi has rarely faced because the refs don't allow it so much and man marking systems are considered obsolete.

Hmmm...closest I saw to Maradona 86 was Baggio 94, he literally took a team playing horrible catenaccio to the final single handed, scoring all the decisive goals. He played the final injured or else I suspect it would have been a different story. He had a fantastic WC, an individual performance only surpassed by Maradona 86 but memory is short and ruthless, he is only remembered for missing the penalty in the final. A classic great talent, with a marvellous technique and artistry who never reached the greatness he deserved because of the injuries. But on the WC 94 he was close.

No referee against Spain no final.

Baggio even missed his penalty In the final. At the end he seems the guilty of the defeat.

Yes you might be right, i looked at it again. Still both Romario and Baggio scored 5 goals each.
