2) Its cheap,
3) They have small airport near the city.

Why not?

It offers security, it's something new, something that the average Western European tourist haven't experienced before, beautiful landscape and culture which is a Byzantine-Ottoman mix although the Communism made it's ugly interference here and there some ugly Communist building will pop up.
The food nevertheless is on a whole different level than the one in Western Europe...
The people are friendly and the social life is extensive...

North Macedonia for sure is not a country that should easily be dropped and scratched from the list.

I am pretty aware about the negative picture for the Balkans and Eastern Europe as a whole but many people actually get surprised when they ignore their prejudices...

If those unlucky Swedish girls have chosen Macedonia and not Morocco for hiking, they would have still been alive today...

I have never seen any real advertisement for Macedonia here either. But I know that Croatia is very popular though so this "Dutch visiting Ohrid" is something I heard of before (just a quick mention here and there) but it isn't really advertised here.

Personally I think that's the best advertisement you can get. It means its not crowdy like Croatia or Greece.
