Why do people insist in using the Spanish word "castizo" as if it had any meaning to define a degree of mixing, nowadays?

According to the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language:
    castizo

    1. adj. Of good origins and caste.

    2. adj. Typical, pure, genuine from any country, region or town.

    3. adj. A language that is pure and without mixtures from straneous voices or idioms.

According to the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language:
Because it really has a meaning define mixing. Or at least had during colonial years:

Mestizo + Spanish Woman = Castizo.

    That's right: it had.

Nowadays what people call Mestizo is no longer Native American + Spanish at 50% each. Therefore a modern Mestizo + Spanish cannot be a Castizo since the so-called Mestizo could well be defined as Castizo by the same rule.

Not that it matters much anyway.

I agree with your point. Very few mestizos (this time meaning anyone with noticeable Ibero-Indio proportions) have the exact 1/4, 1/2, 1/8 to be properly classified under the colonial caste system.

The colonial caste system also does not take into account other influences that entered during colonial times, or post independence, which also altered the genetics.
