The Whole of Nineveh would not happen, as it mostly now inhabited by Bedouin tribes especially in the south, Turkmens in the North, Yazidis and Shabaks. All these groups are more numerous than the Assyrians. Assyrians are to small to really form a nation of their own. As for the Kurds they can't claim any part of Nineveh and the rest of Northern western Iraq is not theirs. If anyone goes into Bedouin territory it often leads to violence, and this why they termed it the region as no man's land. Also it was the Bedouin areas in Iraq that were mostly hostile to Anglo-American forces, and Nineveh was no exception.
