Depends which north africans but in general yes the great majority of north africans view themselves as "arabs" unfortunately

N. Africa shares same religion and Arab language with many of those countries, so in that way there sure certain is connection but it's mainly a religious one and not an ethnical one. Turks left their influence all until Algeria (you won't find Turkish genes in Morocco because the Ottomans never took it).

since i don't know 100% the situation in both the country and the diaspora around the world i will go with my own opinions about that (mostly from what i have seen on the internet ans some in real life) and a part of this must have some kind of "french context" (this is where a live obliviously).

warning: this reply exclude egypt and Libya because i don't know for them (i know tho few about them when it's come tho this question) so im mostly gonna be about Morocco,Algeria and Tunisia

first there is the cultural things since i believe there is two cultural category

the Maghrebi cultural group: it's the national culture of these country and wrongly considered a 100% ̶A̶r̶a̶b̶i̶c̶ ̶c̶u̶l̶t̶u̶r̶e̶ ̶g̶r̶o̶u̶p̶ ̶ by some persons (in reality what is called arab is a maghrebi "Arab-Berber" cultural group since these hilalians/maqil Arabs send by the Fatimid caliph in the 11century/middle ages where later deported by the Almohad caliphate after there defeat against them and where allowed tho stay by the Marinid,Zayyanid,Hafsid Berbers that take power after the Almohad collapse) this Maghrebi culture group than some call Arabs culture include the Moroccan,Algerian,Tunisian "Arab-Berber" (since they could not keep 100% of there culture this resulted in a melting pot with Berbers local culture with some foreigner influence mostly "Mediterranean" or "Sub-Saharian" depending on the case)

regardless of whatsoever they are

1.with Arabian ancestry and know it via tribes or dna test or for a part of them forgot/lost there tribal ancestry and simply identify as Arabs (originally this culture group was mostly if not all present among them)
1.2people who recognize tho have others ancestry
1.3people who don't knew that they are not Arabs and feel ethnically Arabs without having Arabs ancestry (or tho few)
1.4people that use Arabs (they mean they speak Arabic or a part of the "Arab world" rather than ethnic Arabs ?) as some kind of neutral term because they don't know there exact ancestry or may not know anything about there ancestry

all will recognize this group as "/Maghrebi/Algerian/Tunisian/Moroccan" and a few will say it's just Arabic both of them will also say it's akin somewhat tho others mena and they will be divide between the one that associate a little or mostly with others mena or the one that are more neutral and only recognize cultural/religious connection (Islam)

2.some kind of Pan-Arabist that believe everyone is Arabs (or at least 90% of the population) without any reason (not sure about that) or because than certainly arabian tribes migrated in the maghreb everyone is arabs by spamming the "hilalians and the maqil arabs (and some others arabs) migrated in the maghreb= we are all arabs " wich probably consider themselves similar tho middle east people (arabs we are arabs !) or because there is no such as the berbers people who are mix of everything that come in the maghreb region with no natives ancestry tho the region they usual hate anything related tho berbers people because "berbers=barbarian"

1.the Berbers regional cultural groups: this include every culture among this such as the Kabyle,Tuareg,Chaoui,Riffians... unfortunately i don't really have response toward them i may response an another day when i found more response about them the only possible exception are the one which may feel a maghrebi (with may keep there regional berbers identity and mix it with the Maghrebi one or simply just feel maghrebi and berbers) wich in this case shpud by with the maghrebi explanation

2. and some kind of berberist wich are the opposite of the pan-arabist (there obvious enemy) certainly of these berberist does not feel anything to with the mena or even maghrebi and are "Non-Muslim anti arabs" who consider than the actual muslim in the maghreb are arabs invader and probably than the Berbers never (after the great Berbers revolt against the Umayyad) than they never had berbers muslim dynasty/kingdom and the they where solely under arab-muslim control (they don't know about the great berbers revolt and its result and the many number of berbers-muslim dynasty ) this probably have tho do because of the arabization and later adoption of the maghrebi cultural group by late/renaissance muslim entity/kingdom such as the saadians/alaouite arabs or the regence of algiers and tunis which this culture group (that the berberist assimilate as 100% arabic) and in wich is also present in modern country of these region and used by the pan-arabist (as a 100% arabic culture tho them) tho trash talk the Berbers so in response they will trash talk anything Arabs (usually in "Islamophobic"/"anti-Arabs" website or "pro-Israeli" website/forum) certainly may by more "moderate" (responding tho somebody insulting mena/mena country,do not insult heavily Arabs) others berberist (mostly Muslim berberist) which i also consider biased as the pan-arabist exist but i don't know there opinions

Definitely a strong connection for most individuals, due to Islam and a share language/culture. North Africa seems to be more connected to its pre-Arabic culture however, as Arab culture originated in West Asia and spread westward into Africa.
