The USA wont be the only country doing that, they even have protectionism amongst it's own States. We have bidding wars all over, no government wants to fail its citizens.

At community level have saw lots of people helping the vulnerable and isolated. For all the negative stuff, there have been lots of good things too. Doctors and nurses are getting the respect they always deserved.

Finland & Scotland aren't like that(mens world), depends on the nations. I can't speak for the Americans but I'd imagine with an election coming up health reform and jobs will be the major topic there.
