One more thing... It was compared to Romance languages which are stereotyped as the most romantic sounding (I guess) with the exception of English which probably is the least Germanic of all Germanic language due to high % of borrowings mostly from the Romance languages. Quite subjective imo.

They are also Dutch words for a big part, probably also Scandinavian.

can't write it as one word on this forum for some reason.

Not really a word they use. It's like our 'hottentottententententoonstelling' ('exhibit of Khoikhoi/Hottentot tents') which neither is a real word.

I don't think German sounds that bad. It's just that Romance languages are too awesome.

Compare German with hhhhaghghghgaaaaaghghghg überdry Semitic languages or with tchingshungtchongchoongacheen Sino-Tibetan languages, and German might sound even nice.

German is the more elegant version of Dutch, or Dutch rather the more dialectical ugly Dutchling. Not that I hate my own language, but General German was more of an artificial language than General Dutch was originally.

Often when I hear people speaking Dutch it sounds to me like they are speaking English but I just don't know what the words mean.

That is true. I find REGEN in German sounds much better than in Dutch. And not as nice as RAIN in English, but perhaps more elegant.
