When I was younger, I watched hentai over real people. Something about watching other real people I don't know doing what I consider an intimate act bothers me.

Have we considered that some adult entertainers genuinely like their work (and if they don't? They're consenting. Most adults don't enjoy what they do anyway)? This is just another example of imposing morals upon other people. Sex doesn't have to be some ultimate expression of love.

The idea of pornography desensitising guys is for a specific subset of the male population. But it's up to the guy whether he wants to make that choice or not. Why do we have to belittle the porn watchers? Do we have to deny sexual pleasures from the single or the horny? I find this to be semi-BS. Don't watch if you don't like.

It's not a moral issue (ok, sometimes it is) it's a health one. The effects of porn are not widely known. I'd like to think less people would watch if they knew the (very common) effects. I will say I used to watch it a lot. Then I became attuned to those effects, partially by research becoming known to me, partially by having a flatmate with serious afflictions. Furthermore I think porn does warp attitudes to sex, and certainly leads to far less satisfying sex lives. If I were the sort I'd give you half a dozen examples personally known to me. Yes, there are porn users who get it up every time and there are chain smokers who live to a hundred and six, but they're the exceptions and not the rule, and within a year or two this will be common knowledge.

The problem with banning porn is that it will go underground (which it is already, and what we see is the tip of the iceberg). Where there is demand, there is supply. And as long as there is a DEMAND for it, it will be produced. Banning porn is not solving the problem.

Impose a punishing sales tax on pornographic material and build a society in which pornography is not needed by most people, a more natural society where people marry and have children at a younger age and where people are more healthy in all aspects. Porn will die naturally.

I've once seen a British documentary (on our Flemish television) about the harmful effects of pornography. It's not too fresh in my memory but I wouldn't be surprised someone here has seen it as well and remembers who made the docu. The porn addicts they portrayed were some serious cases and they had a very weird stance toward sexuality (almost like teens just having hit puberty). More than once I had to facepalm at the way these very awkward people looked at sexuality.
They also did a brain test with normal people and porn addicts by showing them pornographic material to test the reaction they'd show and they found out the addicts had a far heavier reaction to this. This is a bit flawed though, as not all people unanimously have the same sexual fantasies and it was probably uninspired cliché porn.

This also reinforces my idea that people exaggerate the harmful effects of the sex industry.

And not to get personal, but the docu being British reminded me of Longbowman.

Don't care if people watch porn or not. Some watch porn because they aren't getting any. That is the main cause. Plus it is interesting that most of the people in this thread going against it have a partner. Longbowman has a girlfriend while Kazemiera is married. It is easy for people who have a relationship to say not to watch porn. When I was in a relationship I didn't watch it because I always had a boyfriend to "help out".

When it comes to sex being satisfying it all has to do with seducing the brain of females while men it is about seducing their penis. Don't think porn has long term effects. I just think that our education system is not catching up to the ever growing porn industry.

I even tend to watch erotics when I do get any (even when the woman can fulfill certain fetishes I have, of which only one is truly strong). But I rarely watch hardcore pornography, as I prefer to penetrate myself than to look at pictures of men doing it. That is where fantasy comes into play with me. I prefer looking at hot female bodies and fill in the details myself.
