Default Calling Sven or other exercise junkies!

I recently started going to gym again.

I've been a lazy-ass for too long now.

I noticed, on the treadmill (and also if I walk a longer distance) that my right groin hurts. I did 3km on the treadmill today and at 2km I could already start feeling the discomfort. I don't do running or jogging (only fast walking) because I'm not the most graceful of people and would probably fall off a treadmill and make an ass out of myself. Surely it isn't a tear, but how can I prevent this? When I stop the exercise it goes away after a short while.

This picture shows exactly where I have the pain.

I am not an expert, but you should do stretching and warm up slowly before you start the treadmill. You should prepare your muscles before starting the exercise. Is doesn't look like a major issue, you just have to slowly get use your muscles to exercising, since you haven't for a long time.

Maybe you need to stretch more? It is a good sign that it goes away when you stop running though.

I don't stretch at all before starting. I think perhaps the problem lies there. I've had it a few times before like when my husband and I covered the city on foot. It was a long walk and after a while I could feel it.

I usually go to the gym just about everyday of the week and I use the treadmill to run 6 miles at a time. I would suggest several things. One, as was already suggested, you should have a warmup and stretching routine that you do before you go full speed on the treadmill. Also, sometimes I get pains like right now a dull one in my lower left ankle. If it is a dull pain, rather than a sharp one, and I can tell that it probably won't result in an injury that will keep me from jogging I'll just jog through the pain and alot of times the pain will go away while jogging or I'll forget about it. You know what they say : no pain no gain, right ? If it doesn't go away but gets worse or I can tell it would result in an injury that would prevent me from using the treadmill I would take a break from the treadmill and try to use something like the ellpitical machine or rowing machine (some other form of cardio) until it feels better; then go back to using the treadmill. If I had to take a guess I would say that it is simply from you being out of shape and it is normal. For instance, it is normal to be sore from lifting weights, the next day, especially for a novice. Also, I suggest you start jogging on the treadmill rather than walking or mix in walking and running together until you can just run because jogging is alot better for you. You should care more about your health etc.. than what other than what you think other people think of you while watching you run.

That's the psoas muscle, the pain there is very common if you don't do exercise often and/or don't war-up. You need to warm-up always, both before and after doing exercise, to prevent injuries. Not warming up (or not warming up enough) is a common cause of pain, so I recommend you to do this one for 30 seconds:

Once I didn't warm up enough while doing heavy bench press, and the result was a pectoral tear that lasted for almost 5 months.

If I had to do 6 miles in my current state I think I would die. I have to work myself up to that point. I know I shouldn't be so aware of what others think of me, but I'm terrified of missing a step and landing on my ass. I am totally paranoid of this happening to me. I think you are right that I should try the rowing machine and see how that goes.

    Thank you for the advice.

low peace exercises shouldn't hurt. i get that discomfort when i do cardio on the static bike but because i have notice i flare my thighs when pedaling, for that reason i also get discomfort on my knees, you should watch your posture while jogging, that probably is, if you still get discomfort, try stretching and warming up before working out
