Hasakah is a city in North east Syria with Kurdish majority and Arab minority. The city is controlled by YPG (Pkk in Syria) and Syrian regime forces.

ISIL launches offensive on Syria's Hasakah

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group has launched an assault on the largely Kurdish city of Hasakah in northeast Syria, a UK-based monitoring group has said.
Saturday's clashes came a day after Kurdish militia killed 20 civilians accused of supporting ISIL, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
"ISIL fighters started an assault on Hasakah city and reached the city's southern periphery, where they are clashing with pro-regime forces," said the group's director, Rami Abdelrahman.

YPG and Assad are like allies against ISIS, so it isn't so surprising. IS army also shell the city with mortars including YPG positions.

That's not true at all, and that's an insult to all the YPG members who fell fighting against SAA.

Furthermore there are entire Arab tribes that support YPG such as the Shammar tribe and they send their own tribe members, male and female, to fight in the ranks of YPG and YPJ. It makes no sense for YPG to kill 20 Arab civilians. These tribes are even allowed to raise their own tribal flags when fighting for YPG

I didn't say they are allies, I said they are allies against ISIS. Some months ago, there were heavy fightings between YPG and Assad side as thousands of Iranian Revolution guards and Lebanese Shia militants arrived at Hasakah military airport. However, things change when ISIS attacks as IS doesnt seem to make any difference between Communist Kurds and the Syrian regime and storm both side with aggressive attacks. ISIS arent easy to deal with, stout fighters, highly mobile militant group advancing with car bombs and suicide attacks. So this is normal

Despite airstrikes, Islamists report gains in Syria’s Hasakah

Hasakah, Syria – Syrian fighter jets bombed Thursday areas held by the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) in southern Hasakah, northeastern Syria, local sources reported. This comes after the group took over a power plant near the southern entrance of the city.

“By taking over the power plant, the IS seems in a position to control the daily life of people in Hasakah,” a media activist in Hasakah said on the condition of anonymity.

Locals from the northern neighborhoods told ARA News that large numbers of the Arab and Christian residents have fled the southern districts following IS advance there.

In the meantime, the Syriac Military Council (SMC) announced in a statement that the Syriac forces along with the Kurdish Popular Protection Units (YPG) took positions in the regime-held security center of Mount Kawkab.

“Subsequent to fierce clashes on Wednesday night in the southern areas of Hasakah, the Syriac and YPG forces took over Mount Kawkab in an attempt to prevent any possible IS-led attacks on the city,” SMC said.

In a related development, activist Jassim al-Fahd told ARA News in the Geweran neighborhood of Hasakah that pro-regime forces evacuated their bases south of the city on Thursday.
