Default France's Gypsy Expulsion Policy Dominates Summit

AP - French President Nicolas Sarkozy vowed Thursday to keep dismantling illegal immigrant camps and vigorously defended his government against EU criticism that France is unfairly targeting Gypsies.

A war of words over France’s actions overshadowed an EU summit in Brussels and hijacked its main goal of forging a common EU front on the global stage.

Sarkozy insisted France’s expulsions of Gypsies, or Roma, are a matter of security. He called more than 100 Roma camps dismantled in France in recent weeks havens of crime and undignified living conditions.

Hmm, I see Borisov there. He's getting upset over the amount of gypsies sent back to Bulgaria?

Default Nicolas Sarkozy hits back at critics of Roma expulsions

Mr Sarkozy was involved in a "fierce and heated" argument with Jose Manuel Barroso, the European Commission President as the dispute over France's expulsion of Roma dominated an EU summit on Thursday.
"The disgusting and shameful words that were used - World War II, the evocation of the Jews - was something that shocked us deeply," he said.
Viviane Reding, the EU's justice commissioner, earlier this week condemned President Sarkozy's treatment of Roma gipsies as a "disgrace" that reminded her of wartime Vichy France's collaboration with Nazi deportations of Jews and gipsies.
"Europe is unanimous that the Roma issue is extremely worrying," said Mr Sarkozy.
"Mrs Reding said extremely insulting things. It was deeply shocking to hear someone speak like this and make simplifications that hurt and shocked my fellow citizens."
During heated exchanges at a summit that was supposed to be devoted to foreign policy, David Cameron, the Prime Minister, tried to damp the row. "You should, of course have the right to remove people from your country if they behave illegally but it should never be done on the basis of an ethnic group," he said. "But people have to choose their language carefully."
Mr Sarkozy insisted that 80 per cent of the 23,000 "travellers" in illegal encampments were French citizens rather than foreign Roma gipsies, proof that his policy was not discriminatory. "We will continue to dismantle the illegal camps, whoever is there," he said. "Europe cannot close its eyes to illegal camps."
The EU is to discuss a Europe-wide policy for "Roma integration" in October and in the coming weeks Germany is expected to expel up to 12,000 gipsies

What a carry-on. Hope Germany proceeds with her plans.

I can't help but feel this is just a lame fake-out, though. Troublesome as the gypsies are, they're nothing compared to the real problem of Muslim radicals. Which France has done nothing about, and probably won't do anything about.

There will be a reckoning with Islam in Europe, I just hope it is sooner rather than later, but a reckoning there shall be.

When I was in India one of my hosts said, "The British used to not fuck around, you know." "What happened?"

The French only make up 70% of France's population today. I think it's pretty safe to say the Eurocrats will not stop until the indigenous European ethnics are extinct. What Sarkozy is throwing is a dog and pony show as he's expelling some of the Gypsies, millions of Arabs and Africans continue to remain in France.
