Had a funny experience with a Jewish lad yesterday

I got locked out of my car in the gas station...googled locksmiths and this local company came up. Im set with a locksmith and when he callls me he tells me he;ll arrive in less than half an hour. So I look back at the website and the company said 'starting at $35' so I didnt think much of what will be charged of me.

When the locksmit call me, he had a VERY MENA accent, but non-Arab...literally the Israeli accent but I didnt clue in, and assumed some Iranian or Turk is coming over. He comes and its this 19-20 year old Jewish lad, straight from Israel. He starts on my car and we are talking while he is using the vacuum pump to bend the corner of the car window enough to pull a long wire with a hook down, and let the hook open the locked door. It took all of 30 seconds.

He then charge me $180!!!

I said to him..."Are you Jewish?"

He said Yes

Then while negotiating the price and having little banter, I admonish him for trying to cheat me this price. I showed him the website saying $35 and he said 'wel yeah, starting at..."

I was like..."you cant live up to the stereotypes, young man...stop this and promise me you will conduct your business fairly from now on." And then he is like "well your people also have stereotypes" (his accent also sounded a bit like Mortimer's...) and I told him yea, I also admonish Somalis if I see them. In the end I taught him a good lesson.


Oh and he end up charging me (after we haggled down the price) $80...which still is a rip off.

It was not hostile at all...my admonition. I had my hand on his shoulder like a mentor type and told him what I said with sincerity. He was not offended and looked to take in my advice. I really should be a mentor, people take my advice for some reason.

You didn't even need to look at the website to know $180 is bullshit and yeah $80 is a rip off as well. I wouldn't have been so considerate. What's he going to do? Call the cops and tell them I'm not willing to pay $180 for a service that costs far less?

I'm not sure if it is a christian heritage or not, considering that italian or french are far from being reliable.

Look at ebay, doesn't matter how many orders you do, you'll never be cheated by a german seller. But if you start buying in US, China, France or Italy..

There in lied a dilemma...the kid literally pulled up to my car, grabbed his tool kit and got to work. If I wanted to, I coud have EASILY just done this



after he mentioned a ridicilous price but something about him gave me the urge to mentor him instead...he had what I call 'the listening eyes'. And he took in what I had to say.
