That's a shame. Might I recommend trying to dispel the 'occult' or even 'Satanic' aspect that the runes might have to a mind trained in her spiritual upbringing, by stressing their historical and ethnocultural aspects?
She might be relieved to hear that the Christian English used the runes in Christian contexts up until the Twelfth Century, with the Norse using them far longer...
