If anything, you have North/Central Europeans and the French to thank for Italians not having to wear the Burka, from the French stopping the Moors, Austrians stopping the Turks and the Normans conquering Sicily. Too bad no one could help the Greeks completely getting wiped out, N Euro Crusaders tried but just sacked the Greek capital instead because they probably realized they were fighting for Europeans who look the exact same as the Turkish invaders. Romans/Greeks didn't keep anyone out, they lost.
As for Turkic/Hun/Mongol invasions from the east, the Romans nor Greeks didn't do anything to keep them at bay except get their asses handed to them and give the steppe invaders tribute. NW Europe(eastern Europe too eventually after Russia had a population boom) kept out steppe invaders solely by themselves before Roman influence and Christianity had even reached them(whether or not it was via threat/battle or steppe people had no interest in Germanic land or spoils, it still didn't happen).
A far better question is what the world would be like without NW Europe. Probably like rural Albania. East Asians, northern Iberians and N. Italians(well, N. Italians may've not existed because no Germanic or Celtic admixture theoretically) are probably smart enough to accomplish inventing the industrial revolution and modern technology, but East Asians don't have enough testosterone/drive to, and I dunno, Iberians and N. Italians weren't doing much if anything from 1700 to the modern day, hard to believe modern advancements(which take the most intelligence and are the most important, of course) wouldn't atleast be delayed by a really long time.
