Default 'Flowers & Football Tops' by Glasvegas

Some of you may be aware of the Glaswegian indie band Glasvegas (they're certainly one of my favourite bands at the moment), but will probably not know about their song Flowers & Football Tops, inspired by the anti-white racially-motived abduction, torture and murder of Glasgow teenager Kriss Donald.

The song's title refers to the particularly British custom of placing football-tops alongside the flowers at a place of memorial for the recently deceased. The song itself largely tries to convey some of the suffering of a parent being informed that their son has been found dead.

One thing I love about Glasvegas is that they keep their strong Glaswegian accents, however, this might prove slightly problematic for non-Scots to understand, so these are the lyrics:

    Baby
    Why you not home yet?
    Baby its getting late
I wish you would be home by now.
    Door bell rings
Who could it be at this time?
Police on my left and right
My son’s not coming home tonight

Baby, they don’t need to show
    It's over, I know
Baby, they don’t need to show
Flowers and football tops, I know
    Baby, baby, baby, why you?

    No sweeping exits
    No hollywood endings
    Flowers and football tops
    Don’t mean a thing.

My baby is six feet under
    Just another number
    My daughter without her brother.

Baby, they don’t need to show
    It's over, I know
Baby, they don’t need to show
Flowers and football tops, I know

    My baby is gone…

    (You are my sunshine
    My only sunshine
    You make me happy
    When skies are grey
    I hope you noticed
    How much I loved you
How could they take my sunshine away)

Here are two versions of the song, an acoustic version (my personal favourite) and the album version:
