Default "True Finns" name their party "The Finns"

The populist party which enjoyed historic landslides in last April's parliamentary elections, hitherto known in English as the "True Finns" party, have now officially named their party in English.

The Finnish News Agency STT first reported that, in English, the party is now to be called "The Finns." The decision was taken during a party board meeting Sunday, at the initiative of chairman Timo Soini.

The Finns have had no official English name before, but have variously been called the "True Finns" or "Basic Finns."

True Finns sounded great. What's the literal translation for Perussuomalaiset anyway?

No major difference, though. I don't think false Finns exist.

The 'perus'-prefix can be roughly translated as "basic," in the sense of "ordinary" or "average". So it basically means "ordinary folk". The English translation "True Finns" can easily be understood to have ethnic overtones, when that isn't the original intention. But yeah, I also thought it had a nice ring to it and didn't mind the unintentional ethnic overtones at all. "The Finns" does sound a little tacky.

Very smart. very sauve indeed. The party is the people. When we hear on the news that the finns are doing well, we will be hearing exactly that.

'The finns are doing well with their election.'

'Are the finns doing well with this years election?'

'Those finns are really not making it in the election this year.'

I don't know if they are any good or not. But if they are what the finns need for racial preservation, then I'm glad for once we'll all know what we are talking about when we talk politics.

Yes, I don't really understand why they abandoned a brand name that has worked so well for them. :mmmm:

    False Finns
I understand as people who aren't Finns but live in Finland, not necessarily go to work, and whose main pastime is to "enrich" the Finnish culture.
Opportunities always look bigger going than coming.
