There was actually humour and clever lyrics in hip hop back then now there is this retarded mumble rap style where the rapper sounds like he has a speech impediment. Then compare the Hip Hop break dancing of the 80's to modern hip hop music videos of some fat ass chicks squatting low like they are about to take dump in some Asian style public toilet.

It was a mixed bag. Some good music and television programmes, and most importantly the Cold War was brought to an end. However, it was also the time of Thatcher and Reagan and their disastrous economic policies and, in the case of the former, mass enforced deindustrialisation and unemployment. Yes, those leaders helped defeat Communism and the USSR, but the words "baby and bathwater" do come to mind.

We were heavily into 1980's nostalgia in the 2000's, but I'm kind of burned it with it now.

Generally, nostalgia tends to go back 20 years.

In the 1980's, people were nostalgic for the 1960's (The Wonder Years).

In the 1990's, people were nostalgic for the 1970's (That 70's Show).

In the 2000's, people were nostalgic for the 1980's (I Love the 80s on VH1 and Angry Video Game Nerd who originally called himself the Angry Nintendo Nerd).

I think the 90's was peak human apes, at least in the West, but there is of course typical bias of childhood remembrances.

I enjoyed the 90's. I think it was the most diverse decade when it came to music and good movies.

However, I don't want to derail the Colonel's thread with 90's talk.

The 90s saw a peak in creativity we haven't seen since: from films (what we refer to as independent films compared to the B Movies of the 80s), TV shows (many them like Roseanne and Liquid Television started in the late 80s but hit their mark in the early 90s), cartoons were more sophisticated instead of just 30 minute toy ads (a lot of the humor in some of these cartoons, such Tiny Toons had cultural references only teenagers and adults would understand), the comic books weren't one dimensional as in previous decades (although people say the golden era of comic books were in the late 70s... the industry began to die in the 90s). The music of the early 90s was peak creativity: we haven't seen anything like it since.

The 1980s are more amusing than anything. It's the era of corny and that's where the enjoyment for me comes from. It's just fun. The 70s and 90s appear to be more serious times. The 80s just appear silly. One needs a bit of silliness in their life.
