Why is Germanic and Slavic mythology very similar?

We can definitely see a strong similarity between the Germanic God Odin and Thor to other slavic deities/gods such as Perun. Both of them are copper/red haired. Thor has his hammer or mjolnir and Perun has an axe. There are also many other similarities between all the Germanic and Slavic Gods and Deities. I think this only means that the Germanic and Slavic peoples are related from the Corded Ware Culture? Are they connected due to the expansion of the Indo-European peoples (Haplogroup R1a/R1b people) who created the Germanic branch of the Indo-European languages/people after mixing with and taking over the I1 people?

I think that yes, the roots lie in common Indo-European ancestries.

My bet is that they used to be culturally very similar long ago and also got more into contact.

Because the Slavs started off as a subset of the Germanic tribes. It makes sense that much of the Slavic mythology would tie in with the Germanic mythology.
