Just the idea: if all those areas would indeed join Switzerland then Switzerland would jump from some 7.9 million inhabitants under the rule of freedom and democracy (particularly when compared to the rest of the world) to no less then 24.9 million people. It would become a European power.

I think we should just take a long look at the Swiss system and see whether we can learn from them. They are truly Europe's Finest (apart from us, of course, but we can always learn from the slightly Lesser Gods. ).
