Default Pushed By Dalai Lama, Tibetan Buddhists Study Science

This is what Evola would call an example of a "replacing infiltration". A traditional organization is taken over by the forces of modenity and deviated from its original purpose. Modern science is NOT spirituality.

Isolated for centuries atop the high Himalayan plateau, and refusing entry to nearly all outsiders, Tibet long saw little of value in modernity.

Education was almost completely limited to monastic schools. Magic and mysticism were – and are – important parts of life to many people. New technologies were something to be feared: Eyeglasses were largely forbidden until well into the 20th century.

No longer. Pushed by the Dalai Lama, a fierce proponent of modern schooling, a series of programs were created in exile to teach scientific education to monks, the traditional core of Tibetan culture.

Many a one has cast away his last worth when he has cast away his servitude. Free from what? What does that matter to Zarathustra! But your fiery eyes should tell me: free for what?" - Thus Spoke Zarathustra

Default Why not study science ?

As long as Tibet was isolated and nearly inaccessible, its monastic society could survive in ignorance of the science and technology of the outside world.
That was its spiritual strength and its political weakness.

But, Tibet is no longer isolated, and Tibet is now enslaved. The world is inhabited by men, not merely by spirits, demons, Bodhisattvas, rinpoches, and lamas. Spiritual power is of no avail against materialistic exploiters backed by modern weapons technology.

The world is more than and different from the Lamaist conception of it. It will do the lamas no spiritual harm to view the Hubble space photographs and learn their significance. In fact, it should enhance their sense of awe. The Potala is NOT the hub of the Universe.

You don't need to wonder, arcticwolf will make his stance known!

Buddhism is pro science, a lot of Buddhists a very well educated and scientists. Unlike other religions Buddhism has no issue with science at all. The only disagreement would be that science limits reality to the matter ( matter and energy ) Buddhism does not.

I am of the Theravada tradition, Tibetan Buddhism is a bit different, but my guess is they have similar stance on science.

Here is the thing anything that allows us to understand reality better is welcome in Buddhism.

There is a reason Buddhism is called the SCIENCE of the mind.
