Mexican Army takes over customs on US border

NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico — Mexico’s Army took control of customs Sunday on the busy US border, as federal authorities pulled agents off the job in a massive anti-corruption shakeup, officials told AFP.

An Interior Ministry official said the dismissals were being carried out at all Mexican border facilities, and that the customs agents were being replaced.

Customs agents were sacked after some were found to be linked to contraband operations, according to sources at the ministry.

Agents in Nuevo Laredo, on the border with the southern US state of Texas, were called in Saturday to be told they were fired, and to hand in their badges and weapons. A total of 1,100 agents were sacked, Mexican media said.

I call a dirty scheme to allow Mexican troops to freely control our borders. I'm also curious about these "contraband" accusations.

I lol'd at the statement that the officials had to hang up their badges and weapons. What weapons do they have? A can of pepper spray and a taco?

That's only their side of the border though. I'd wager that our Border Patrol is at least the equal of their Army.

Our border patrol is unarmed from what I understood. Not much good against an army.

Although I don't work for the CBP yet, I'm 99% positive that you are mistaken. If our border patrol were unarmed, how would Ramos and Compean have been able to shoot that drug runner in the ass?

It's a shame though, that chances are you detain Mexicans from crossing the border, you'll either end up losing your job, thrown in jail, or end up setting the 'asylum seekers' free. That's exactly why the Minutemen are there. The Border Patrol and the Federal Government should step back and let the people who live there descide what kind of people they want living in their backyards or in their streets with their children, because with the Feds tying the hands of the BP, the Minutemen would do a heck of a better job at keeping Mexicans in their own country. The Feds don't want the Mexicans to stop coming and they've made that loud and clear.

According to http://www.usborderpatrol.com/Border_Patrol412.htm they're armed only with a pistol, so they are armed, but not much. A pistol is not going to do crap against an army.
