Inspired by the Tolkien thread, this thread is to discuss Robert Jordan and his epic story The Wheel of Time.

I've only been reading this series for about two years, but I love it just as much as those who have been with it from the beginning. The series so far is eleven-books long and the twelfth and final volume A Memory of Light is coming out soon. AMoL is going to be so big though, it has been announced that it is being split into 3 seperate parts. Part 1 The Gathering Storm will be out in November!

Seeing as Robert Jordan (James Oliver Rigney, Jr.) sadly passed away in 2007, Brandon Sanderson a long time fan of the series with his own popular trilogy, was chosen by Jordan's wife to complete the series.

To kick things of here are a some topics we can discuss!

1) Who is your favourite character?

2) Which is your favourite faction?

3) How would you rate Rand's sanity on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being completely sane and 10 being completely bonkers?

Favourite character, Hmm Well of course Rand, but I rather like Min and I think most women have to have a soft spot for Lan!
Faction...Well not exactly sure what you mean, but I like Mat's little group at the moment
Sanity, this is one part of the story that I don't like I don't think he has treated it very well at all, giving your main character such huge handicaps as he has seems a little pointless. So as sanity goes I actually think he is still very sane 2-3 maybe on your scale.

I thought so at first as well. But have you seen the estimated word-count? I can actually understand why they split it into 3. My problem is that they're going to delay release.. I would be much happier with a box-set.

I'm a fan of Rand as well of course, and Min is my favourite of Rand's lovers. Lan is of course "bad ass", but my favourite character over all is Matrim !

Faction...Well not exactly sure what you mean, but I like Mat's little group at the moment

By faction I mean like... The Shadow, Salidar Aes Sedai, Blacktower, the Children of the Light. I would say my favouritef faction though is the Shadow, for nothing else than Ishamael.

Sanity, this is one part of the story that I don't like I don't think he has treated it very well at all, giving your main character such huge handicaps as he has seems a little pointless. So as sanity goes I actually think he is still very sane 2-3 maybe on your scale.

What do you find poor in Jordan's handling of Rand's sanity? By the way, I consider Rand to be perfectly sane with all things considered.

Not so much his sanity but his other afflictions, I find that they just annoy me. Things like his reaction to grasping the power etc.

I read about the first 5,000 books of The Wheel of Time and decided there was no end in sight…… A shame really because they aren't bad.

My favorite character is actually Nynaeve. I admire her spunk, and her no nonsense attitude and her prickly nature. And the fact that she doens't realize her own strength, since she was in a stalemate with oneof the Forsaken, and was shocked at her power. And I can identify with her block to using the Saidar unless she was really angry, because I know that there are things that I cannot do unless I am forced into it because of my own hangups.

My favorite is Perrin. He is great they way that he communes with nature.
As for Rand he is about as sane as me, thus we live in our own realities. In other words he is about a 5, some days are better than others.

I'm referring, of course, to Jordan's Conan pastiches. I haven't read his Wheel of Time series, though I own three books of the collection.

Second part of A Memory of Light has been released. Store wont be open for hours though. The Gathering Storm was brilliant and I have high hopes for this next volume.
