They are not losers, sometimes people prefer to be alone. A loser can also be surrounded by a bunch of other losers.

I was always a bit wary of the Moomins when I was younger. Their faces were too big to be entirely trusted. To be fair to the Moomins (whom I would not wish to offend) it wasn't just them, but also others of their ilk. I would certainly not feel relaxed sitting opposite a giant one in a restaurant whilst it watched me eat

My perception is that large Asian cities are too busy and stressful and people get self absorbed. Similar trend can be seen in LA, people are too much in a rush and miss everything around them.
