I don't think you can have a genetic "connection to place" in a spiritual sense, but physically, you can certainly adapt. You build your own connections of place by your own experience, and not the experience of your distant ancestors.

Epigenics are less about changing physical features, and more about very subtle personality and metabolism traits. But the field is very new and undiscovered, so I don't really know.

Yeah, I don't know a lot about it either. I've read a few theories attempting to tenuously tie it to Lamarckian theory.

I agree with some of the other posts about feeling a connectedness to a culture. I think it's either a parapsychological phenomenon that we don't yet understand the workings of, or it's genetically encoded. Either way I do lean further to the side of believing in it (whatever the mechanism) than not believing in it.

At the least I am sure you are coded to recognize faces. There is sort of a "general american" look that's probably basically irish+german that I grew up with and looks familiar, and so do brish isles people, but even a lot of very pale europeans look kind of different to me.

Makes sense. I was watching this documentary on it as well, and it explained how things we do in life can affect the health of our ancestors. So people who do drugs, smoke a lot, drink a lot etc can affect the health of their offspring, even pregnant women who undergo stress in the last stage of their pregnancy will make their children have generally higher stress levels. Basically it was implied that we are the 'guardians' of our genes, for this generation. And should keep them in good shape for the next generations.
