People are idiots. If you're closer to SSA, you're likely to have curlier hair. If you're closer to mongs, you're likely to have straighter hair. There exists no pure SSA with curly hair, the only one who has it are mixed people like Somalis or mulattos. It's about likelihood and percentages. When it comes to Japanese, pretty much 100% of the people will have entirely straight hair, perhaps a few with wavy and maybe 1 out of a million or something might have curly hair. Somalis are most likely to have hair in between wavy and nappy-negroid like and most of them have such hair.

However, obviously since they're mixed, some will have straighter hair

It's why for example Greeks, Spaniards and Lebanese are likelier to have curlier hair than Germans. It's also why Finns, Russians and Swedes are likelier to have straight hair.
