This is where many people like you get caught out. They think it's about US/Western domestic consumption. It's not. I gave you the key in my last message.

The entire global economy needs oil to run. Whoever controls that energy supply is able to influence and control others. Once you have that sort of global influence, it's not something you just give away unless you are a damned fool. Get it?

Furthermore, and perhaps even more crucial, is the US petrodollar. The US has to force others to sell and buy oil in USD to maintain the value of its currency, which allows it to take on debt like no other country and maintain its edge.

You should now understand why it goes way beyond US/Western oil consumption.

It goes beyond oil, too. The middle east is important geographically.

He wanted us to blow money in the middle east which in effect destabilizes our economy.

We should get the hell out of the middle east and let them handle it themselves and we should get away from using their oil.

We should stop providing all weapons and money to the middle east including Israel. I want to get away from all those fanatics. I think Trump agrees with me but the Neo Cons still have a hold on him in current administration. We should follow a Pat Buchanan/Reagan form of foreign policy that is truly conservative. Even G H W Bush was against this insane policy set-up by Neo-Cons
Well spoken ! Fuck off all the armchair warmongers

The best response to terrorism is not letting us be intimidated by these bastards. React with wit like the Belgians (who love eating French fries, Belgian fries, Freedom fries, whatever you call them) did after the attentates in Brussels, last year,.

Every year it get less and less important as oil get less important. Obviously it is still important. However, Canada and many other countries have a lot of oil also.

Even if oil was not sold in dollars,, the USA dollar is the only game in town. The bond spreads of the Euro Zone is proof that the Euro Project has many many problems.

China also has massive over capacity problems along with a massive private debt mountain that may come crashing down.

Switzerland is too small to be a safehaven currency for everyone. Japan also has the largest public debt to GDP than any other country in the world.
If you want safety you buy USA Debt(Treasurers)

If I'm not wrong, you're an Afro-American, aren't you? How can a black guy support Le Pen? She's well-known in France for being racist, as has always been her father (and the bigots of this forum for anthrotards).

How would you like to deport a ghost, dummy? He's not material. The only thing a ghost can do, it's scaring you to death. Other than that, he's harmless.

Sorry, but oil is not getting less important at all. Certain vested interests might have you believe that renewables, solar, wind etc. can take over, but they can't, at least not now. Their energy equations don't work out well enough. The energy return on investment for renewable petroleum substitutes are negative, meaning you won't see many algae oil-powered aircraft, ships or cars anytime soon. We're stuck with petroleum. It's a very inconvenient truth.

That was legitimately the case from 1945-71 when the USD was still backed by gold, the US owned much of the world's wealth and was genuinely productive. But the deindustrialised, debt ridden and technically insolvent US of 2017 is a different animal. It really does need the demand tied to oil and as many other global transactions as possible to have value. There's no way out of it.

The USA is still the cleanliest shirt in the world compared to all the other currencies/countries that could possibly be the next reserve currency. Australia and Canada are examples of well ran countries but their economies are too small and their currencies fluctuates heavily on commodity demand. The UK is not a good candidate. The EURO is a really bad currency due to a lack of fiscal cohesion among the currency block. China and Japan also have too many problems. The Japanese Yen is somewhat of a safe haven for some reason not sure why their debt to GDP is worse than the USA.

All fiat currencies are illegitimate and imposed on people by force of the state, including the modern USD. The US has the most powerful military force in world history, which allows it to force much of the world to use its currency. The USD and the US military are dependent on each other - the USD needs to be in demand from the international community to retain value, which is guaranteed by the threat of military force, and the military needs the debt capacity of the US petrodollar to maintain its expenditure and underwrite its global supremacy. In other words, the US is trapped. Having said that, it's not that bad a trap to be in. The end result is they're not going to let go of the energy supply.

The US has gone through various phases throughout its history. Essentially, the different ideas associated with each phase are incompatible, which is why there has been such great economic transformation and upheaval, although superficially many things may seem the same, and many political promises seem the same. I think some Americans still have trouble dealing with that because of their anti-imperialist national creation myth. It's hard to reconcile those ideas with the modern imperial, global hegemonic reality of the US and leads to cognitive dissonance. It's a different country now to what it was in the 1960s, before 1945, before 1918, etc. The notion that the US can somehow withdraw from the world is basically a pre 1918 idea. Things have changed. We're not going back to that world.
