Honestly.
One has to be really dumb if is not able to get that people from former Eastern Block hate to be called Eastern Europeans.
All dirty stereotypes are hidden in that label.
But it is still widely used here.
Why? Are you dumb or just enjoy seeing other people being butthurt?

Not from the perspective of Czechs and Hungarians for example, who don't have much in common with real easterners: Russians.
That's why Russian won't be insulted to be called easterner, because he is that. And that's why Albanians won't be insulted to be called balkanite, because that's what they are.
Problems is with countries that are pushed in this two cathegories due to politics, not culture , and ofcourse because the way people use this labels on TA implies putting other people down.

I think most people see it as a geographic reference. The cold war was a long time ago.
