One of the 20 famous noble families in Finland (which local communists / leftests hated) ... they were active to industrialize Finland.
Built up saws, ply wood factories etc. I respect those ''pioneers'' (they influenced a lot to development of Finland at 20th century).

If you ask Harkonnen ... then nope Lemmi? Not so sure anymore.
So what is Finnish culture? Swedish / Germanic influence is present ... everywhere (if one just dig bit deeper). Hard core nationalist (Finns) just do not want to admit that. And equally ... same goes with Eastern influnces (Karelians & Russians).
Finland is one kind of melting point of west and east.

Those German names belong to people who invested during the 19th century to wood processing industry. Not benefactors, but business as usual. They moved to Finland from Courland (nowadays belongs to Latvia) and were obviously Baltic-Germsn landlords who obtained their property by subjugating local serfs.

What exactly is culturally Germanic or Russian in me, Ymy or Saiwalo? I'd agree that Lemminkäinen is culturally Continental European, but it is pretty obvious when you observe communication in this forum alone that the holy trinity I mentioned are complete oddballs, and there is in fact more common between Russian and Germanic, than either have to holy trinity.

I think that we all have different answers. Historically Finland has been between east and west 2000 years. The first millennium petty kings ruled here as everywhere in Europe excluding Rome. Christianity process in Europe changed the geographical position. In general almost all European historical trends can be seen here. Some trends came via Sweden another via Russia . For example Russia paid to German architects, because they had not their own.

Relax Harkonnen ... I just teased you
Plus I even like Mämmi ...
... which many pure ethnic Finns will not do (nowdays)?
Plus 2017 (as being first/only time in Eastern Finland) ... I tried original handmade Karelian pasty, Kalakukko?, Lörtsy, Möttönen, Särä (one kind of sheep meat?).
