Credit Suisse racism claim sparks soul-searching in Swiss banking
October 9, 2020
In the refined world of Swiss banking, ugly accusations of racism are ripping through the industry.
The row erupted this week after an article in The New York Times alleged former Credit Suisse chief Tidjane Thiam was the victim of racism, prompting soul searching in the industry — as well as a backlash among some who believe Thiam's downfall had nothing to do with race.
The article prompted editorials in the Swiss financial media and an outpouring of comment online and elsewhere on both sides of the argument.
