Thank you very much! these maps make a lot of sense but the figures for northern Spain seem a bit high i think, unless of course by light eyes we mean Hazel as well, i think i can say that the figures for central and southern Spain do conform to my observations.

Yeah they seem a bit high to me too, just as Galicia seems a bit low, but that's what the study says.

Why art thou surprised? It is a known fact that Iberians are well among the darkest - haired populations of Europe.

Portugal = 19% (Black) + 59% (Dark brown) = 78% (Dark - haired)
Spain = 23% (Black) + 58% (Dark brown) = 81% (Dark - haired)

There is no evidence for it. Portugal has always been somewhat lighter - haired, with usually less black hair. Some parts of Spain may be lighter but other parts are much darker.

Yeah I think Spain is one of the more homogenous countries, the differences seem a bit high, but I wouldn't be too surprised to see Galicia as one of the darkest parts despite being so north given the SSA/North African cline is West to East(higher in West) in Iberia, not North/South.
