We still have them in some small villages but many places in the countryside have indoor ones today. My village is not considered as little but my ancestors’ house there is very old, that’s why they have outhouse in their garden. I don’t use it when i visit my village because i am afraid/scared if i see some bugs there, i am strongly disgusted by them. The mosque is very close to my ancestors’ house so i go and pee on its toilet

In the past, 60-70 or years ago, it was common here to have the bathroom outdoor, in a cabin beside the house, or also in a kind of recess in a wall, closed by two shutters, like a closet or a cabinet; hence the Italian word for bathroom : gabinetto (cabinet), diminutive of the French "cabine" (cabin, hut).

I think it is elitist to think outhouses are backwards. As a westerner, I'm lazy too walk out to one in the dead of winter. It makes sense to a lot of ways it's just a matter of convenience.

Me too, but after my early 10s, there was an in-house option as well.
