I know that there is a very ingrained idea in many people that Venezuela is very screwed up. Some people in this forum even talk about Venezuela being in the verge of a civil war. People think of Venezuela like being such a shit hole nowadays that think that is impossible to even walk two blocks without being mugged. Too many people think that Venezuela is so fucked up as to be compared with Haiti or sub Saharan African countries, because most people almost cannot eat and survive with no more than a dollar a day. Is very ingrained the idea that there is a great shortage of everything, and almost everybody is starving and have to wait in line to get any food or supplies.
I don't pretend that Venezuela is doing very well, because there is still crisis, but not as hard as so many people have been led to believe by sensationalist media outlets or by bad tongues of certain YouTube channels that portray Venezuela as Biafra or something like that. Back in Madrid, in my last visit to Spain, I met a Venezuelan girl working in a Venezuelan restaurant. Very nice girl who I engaged in a friendly conversation with her, for being co-nationals, and at some point in our conversation she mentioned that she recently visited her family back in Venezuela, and I asked her something like "is really bad back there in Venezuela, right?" and to my surprise she told me that it isn't that bad right now. That now everything is very well stocked, because the Venezuelan government lifted the exchange restrictions, and now everything sold and paid in dollars, and everybody carries dollars with them. But also, many things are expensive.
I think that that is at least much better than the dire situation of 4-5 years ago, when there was shortage of everything, and long lines to get food and supplies, and nobody wanting to be there. From that moment I had this conversation, I made my own research and found a series of YouTube videos that explain how the situation is right now. And it seems that Venezuela isn't doing that bad right now, as compared to 3,4 or 5 years ago. That there has been a slow but steady improvement in the general situation. Not everything is perfect, since some things are worse, but many things are getting better. So this thread is to show those videos, and know about your opinions.
Sorry to start this thread in English, since I know we are in the Latin American section. More likely some of my later posts are going to be in Spanish, but I do it with the intention to attract more people to my thread.
I will explore videos of different YouTube channels (trying to post a couple of videos on each post, to don't saturate) from different Youtubers, most of them Venezuelans, and all of them very recent videos, Videos that reflect the everyday life, with lots of economic activity, lots of healthy common people buying stuff, nice places, nice/chilly atmosphere, etc. So I'm going to start with the YouTube channel of "Chistes Jose Joao". First two videos:
