I've searched people of Palermo and here is what I've got:

It's easy to recognize faces of Malta (levantine), but there are people of Italic type, too, and quite plentiful.

I see Jake Gyllenhaal types overall, and the guy at the front is very Semitic. Anyway the point wasn't that western Sicily looks just like Levantines, but Maltese are not nearly as exotic as you made them out to be, and eastern Sicily looks more "European" than the west, and close to Greece.

Not just Carthaginian, but proper Phoenician from Lebanon first. Then the Phoenician civilization in the Levant fell, and the Carthaginians were the strongest remnant, so they inherited the Phoenician colonies in Sicily, Malta, and Sardinia.

Believe me, they are very exotic for Europe. They look like Middle Easterners... Would instantly be seen as Arabs in Romania...

I'm talking about the western Sicilians. If you went to both Palermo and Malta you wouldn't notice much difference.

They look basically like Southern Italians or Albanians, with some North African (Tunisian) admixture IMO.
