Dundra is the moon god of the Norse Gypsies.
In ancient times, when they still lived in their homeland in India, the Gypsies venerated a moon god called Dundra, whose power reached its maximum during the period of the new moon. According to the myth, God sent his son, Dundra, to earth in human form to teach men the laws. When he finished his task Dundra ascended to the moon and changed his name to Alako (from the Finnish alakuu, "waning moon").
Since then Dundra/Alako became the protector of the gypsy people and when one of them dies, the god accompanies his soul to the moon. According to the myth, one day Alako will return to earth and bring the Gypsies back to their original homeland, India.
The god Alako was worshiped until the end of the 19th century, depicted in small stone idols as a man holding a feather in his right hand and a sword in his left
