He then served in the South African Army and Air Force, and then in private business.
His parents also expanded their business to South Africa and bought a home in the late 1960s.
He married a younger white South African woman in 1991 who produced a son for him, my stepbrother,
but she died unexpectedly in 1996 I think.
He then remarried a much younger white South African woman, my adopted mother, in 1997. So he became my stepfather.
We left South Africa in late 1997.
We went to Canada first, his parents were already Canadian citizens by then, and he had Canadian permanent residency.
He later became a Canadian citizen and so did we.
I think we first lived in Sweden in 1998.
My stepbrother wanted to complete his national service in Sweden,
but this was 2009 and conscription was ending, or he was not called.
