Rumours about Putin's doppelgangers, as well as about his fatal illness, have been circulating for years, so one should be cautious about such news. There are no confirmations or denials of this information from more reliable sources yet.
"Attention! At the moment there is an attempted coup d'état in Russia! Russian President Vladimir Putin died tonight at his residence in Valdai. At 20.42 Moscow time, doctors stopped resuscitation and stated death. Now the doctors are blocked in the room with Putin's corpse, they are being held by the President's security officers on the personal orders of Dmitry Kochnev, who is in touch with and receives instructions from Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Russian Security Council. The security of the President's doppelganger has been reinforced. Active negotiations are underway. Any attempt to present the double as President after Putin's death is a coup d'état," reads the message of the telegram channel.

No, he cannot die until he has fulfilled his appointed role on earth. Speculation and wishful thinking is futile.
As for denying all these spurious propaganda reports from Ukrainian intelligence services, why should Russia bother to confirm or deny it? These reports have no credibility, and responding to them gives them credibility they don't deserve.

'Putin is Dead' News Meant To Gauge Russians’ Reactions, Says Ukraine Intel
HUR spokesman Andriy Yusov said the Kremlin-orchestrated hoaxes are "designed for domestic audiences" and are "part of a certain scheme."

The Kremlin spread rumors that President Vladimir Putin had died to test his popularity and strengthen his grip on Russia, according to Ukraine.
Andrii Yusov, a spokesman for the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, said that the bombshell report of Putin’s demise made last week by the popular Telegram channel General SVR — which purports to be run by a former Russian intelligence officer – was all a ruse by Russia.
While the 71-year-old president’s death would spell “good news” for Ukrainians, it was really “an inside story that it aimed at [the] domestic Russian audience,” Yusov told the Ukrainian outlet Radio NV.
“The basic purpose of fake news is to look at how society reacts in terms of numbers and dynamics, to look at the reactions of individuals, the elite and the media,” he claimed.

I wouldn't be surprised if he has ever used doppelgangers but not because he is dead, simply for safety and in very specific moments.
What I don't know, because I've been a little disconnected from the news for a while, is what happened to Gerasimov, if he was at that site attacked with missiles, if he was unharmed or injured, if he has appeared in public again...
