No one likes Late Antiquity and Middle Ages? I personally find them very interesting. People always think mainly about Renaissance and Roman Empire when talking about Italian history (perhaps also Fascist Era)
Personally i like them all except: Renaissance, Napoleonic Italy and 1900
I'm also a big fan of 1700 but that was perhaps one of the worst periods for Italy considering all the foreign domination except perhaps during Maria Theresa which build many things in Italian cities ruled by Austrians.

It is difficult not to allude to Rome taking into account the valuable and powerful legacy it left throughout the world and to which, even today, we are indebted.
This without underestimating the rest of the history of Italy, very rich and exciting. From the medieval period I am especially interested in the formation and rise of the Lombard League and the Aragonese period of the kingdoms of Sardinia and the Two Sicilies.

Renaissance and Roman Empire are obviously well known because their legacy, probably the two periods where Italy was really important but other periods are worthy of notice as well. Italy started to become "irrelevant" after Italian Wars.
The Lombard League and the Medieval Communes history is very interesting yes, also the Maritime Republics and the Investiture Controversy (which is not Italian history only but still involves the Pope and Rome)
Forse solamente perchè il periodo Rinascimentale è troppo famoso. Preferisco periodi meno conosciuti della storia italiana. Cmq non sto dicendo che non sia bello o importante ovviamente.
