Default Are we only 2% Neanderthal?

I assume that the Neanderthal variants detected are those that are different from homo sapiens.

But given that Neanderthals and Homo sapiens must have shared DNA structures, isn't it possible that we actually have a lot more Neanderthals?

I think that Cro Magnon types originate from Neanderthals, I might be wrong but it makes sense that CM types originate from Neanderthals.

Neanderthals are known to contribute up to 1-4% of the genomes of non-African modern humans,

It seems to me that Cro Magnon was sapiens, similar to today's Caucasians.

    Exactly!

But the Neanderthal DNA detected corresponds to what Neanderthal did not share with Homo sapiens.

But Neanderthal undoubtedly shared DNA with Homo sapiens, which would mean that we could say that we'd actually have more Neanderthals?

What I mean is: we share 99.5 to 99.7% of our DNA with Neanderthal because the separation of the two species is recent.

Is it possible that, for example, in Europeans and Asians, DNA sequences originating from Neanderthals could be attributed to Sapiens because they are identical?

I read a study suggesting extra Neanderthal contribution to (Upper Paleolithic) Europeans was possibly hidden by the introduction of ENF.

This could explain the popular fact that East Asian samples have higher average Neanderthal than West Eurasians. Perhaps the opposite is true, and ENF assimilation in Europe is masking the extra Neanderthal.

    We need more data.

Or they have recent common ancestry.

I think we read the same study. But why did the European Farmers have less Neanderthal?

Knowing that Neanderthals also existed in the Middle East

Of course they lived in the middle east as there are alpine and more robust Iranids there who are neanderthal derived.
