Correct, we are not monkeys, we are apes. We are apes whose ancestors adapted to environmental pressures, eventually specializing and developing much larger brains, language and technology. (Some believe God guided this evolution, but there is no evidence.)

Whether it makes you uncomfortable or challenges your worldview is immaterial...there are mountains of data for evolution that have driven medical advances and a greater understanding of our nature. If you donkt believe in evolution then the dna tests talked about here are all fantasy...the science behind the understanding of dna has also produced incredibly strong data showing evolution is fact...it's how we got here.

You're like a guy who picks someone up at a train station, looks through their traveller's belongings and finds a train ticket, a train schedule, pictures taken from a train, and a brochure about train tours and then says that they must have gotten here by magic because his grandpappy thought trains were impossible.

I think the human propensity to fling poop (figuratively in this case, literally in many news stories from Florida) is compelling evidence that we are apes.
We are very different from most apes, however, smarter more adaptable and most crucially, we can decide to change our behavior and personalities if we decide to. The rest of the apes don't seem to have that ability.
