I think I am very focused on physical appearance to the point of being slightly vain. I surmise that maybe it's a problem for me. I hope I can overcome it because I try not to, but I get very narrowly focused on one topic or something in particular and cycle with it. Right now I hate my looks but I'll come around to accepting them again. I just want to be handsome but I probably need to lose a lot more weight and see how it works.

Honestly the realization that your feelings about your looks are cyclical is a very good thing to have noticed. When you're feeling bad, try to remember that the feeling is temporary and you'll feel differently in time. It helps you get control of your feelings instead of the other way around, to realize feelings are not reality. I know because it was a very helpful realization for me.
