Do you play as female characters in video games

I don't play video games but boycotting a game because it has a female character seems retarded. Unless there's some kind of political message behind the choice of that character.

Like Jakob said, it's not even a boycott at this point. Not buying a product because it has a feature you don't prefer is... just not a boycott. A boycott is more like "Nestle makes half of the things at the store and I will go out of my way to not buy them because xyz moral reasons". Not "hmm, I don't think I would enjoy spending my time on this activity that costs money".

I was going to say "gaming culture is so crazy these days" but then I realized this is probably a problem that exists entirely in Rajputprincess's brain.

I made an exception on picking up gaming again for Baldur's Gate 3 and I'm on a second playthrough as a female character, played a male first on my siding with the Tieflings.

Also, some games demand picking the alternative characters to pass them thru. Not picking female characters as a must is like playing Tiny Toon (NES/SNES) with bunny only, it's impossible to go through it this way.

It's not that important. If a game I want to play has a female protagonist I'll still play it, it just doesn't happen often.

The only "video" games I've played was table tennis when I was a kid (age 6?) in a NYC bar in the 1970s that was across the street from where I lived, old fashioned pinball machines in a pizzeria and laundromat, Pac Man and Ms Pac Man in a laundromat. I haven't been to a laundromat in ages.
