He looks very similar to a native Londoner I know, very British looking really though obviously darker than the average Scot.

What would you expect from a land with so many good-looking redheads?

The majority of Scottish people have lighter skin tones than continental Europeans anyway. This is explained not only by the northern latitude of their nation but also the restricted exposure to brilliant sunshine. The English who are a close cousin to them are sort of in between the British Islanders and the nearby continentals. This is well explained in the history of their green land and how England came to called so and who created it. The Welsh who severely abused by the ancestors of the English but resisted bravely nevertheless also exhibits often the paleness associated with the Scottish and their brethren the Irish. In my opinion, it is these northwestern European people who are at the «*pinnacle*» so to speak of the White or Europid race.

it's now proven that sun exposure alters DNA (specific genes) to tune it to sun exposure requirements for the skin, so Scotland is having less sun exposure so they are genetically setting themselves for that, of course, unknowingly, as it's a bodily process.

there's black researchers that became almost Mediterranean white in Longyearbyen for the same reason

Their more northern location and interaction with Scandinavians? In any case, Scots look much more similar to the Welsh (even if they are a little fairer) than to Nordics.

It's got nothing to do with Scandinavians as the English actually resemble them more, the palest Scots are more Irish like or even Welsh or English like.

Um, what about all the Norse settlement in Scotland? Plus all the trade and travel with Norway and Iceland over the centuries.

Well despite that they don't look that much like Norwegians, they are just far too light, they resemble more the Irish. I think the actual number of Norwegian settlers was actually quite small in Shetland etc.

LOL it is the opposite - Scots are far more brunet than Norwegians and instead just resemble other British Isles groups.
