Because according to Putin the objective was to denazify Ukraine, and I doubt that something like this can be done successfully without taking the capital. Do you doubt Putin's words?

Now seriously, at this point, I think they must have already realized that it matters little what the objectives of every side are, and that both parties are going to have to give them up no matter what they were.

And if you remember the advances at the beginning of the invasion, the objective was Kyiv, if now knowing that they will never be able to take it they prefer to take something with value, but secondary as it would be Odessa, it would be to recognize the initial failure, and apparently they are not willing to accept that.

Anyway, anything can happen.

Realistically the objective of Russia was always to take Novorossya which corresponds to the historical borders and majority Russian speaking population.

I doubt that what you show is representative and goes beyond a specific anecdote, and I don't understand why something like that would make you funny. I recently saw a mini-report about "Russian refugees" in brothels on the French border, and I don't find it funny nor do I think it is representative of the situation of the Russians.

I wonder, if it's a new copium wave to show the NAFO simps that Russians are disfunctional clowns with shovels who blow up themselves when they get access to modern warfare?

But there's a fact about Ukraine, "Russian rockets" stopped hitting the residental buildings in Ukraine (while their use increases from month to month) since Ukraine lost huge amount of own anti-aircraft systems which used to hit these buildings frequently or caused the parts of hit UAVs to fall on residental areas.

As for mentioned accidents, I remember the only one recent derailed bomb accident when it fell in relatively empty area and didn't explode at all.

Probably Smaland thinks that for the news we turn on TV or buy a Pravda newspaper (like he does with own media in American reality).

Asenior Russian commander who criticized the Russian military and its treatment of soldiers operating in southern Ukraine has been arrested, Russian state media reported on Tuesday.

Major General Ivan Popov, who had headed Russia's 58th Army, was "arrested on suspicion of fraud," Russian state news agency, Tass, reported, citing a law enforcement spokesperson.

Newsweek has reached out to the Russian Defense Ministry for comment via email.

Popov was removed from his command of Russian troops in Ukraine's annexed southern Zaporizhzhia region In July 2023 after he criticized the Russian Defense Ministry for failing to provide sufficient support for the country's fighters.

MOSCOW, May 22 (Reuters) - Russian patriotic bloggers expressed anger on Wednesday over the arrest of the former commander of Russia's 58th army, who was detained for fraud, and cast him as a talented general who had the courage to speak the truth to incompetent superiors.
Russia's state news agency TASS reported on Tuesday that Major General Ivan Popov had been arrested on suspicion of "large-scale fraud".
It was not possible to contact Popov directly, who Russian media said stood accused of stealing 100 million roubles ($1.1 million) of metal.

I wait to see what they say the objective is next month.

I feel like the ultimate goal is quite similar to Irredentist ideas which exist for decades - SE coming home, Central Ukraine becoming the neutral landlocked Ukrainian ethnostate under strong Russian influence, Western Ukraine going anywhere.

Also, pragmatically for the state, SE is a sweet piece of cake full of resources and fertile lands we're gonna take right from the mouth of Monsanto, Blackrock and other transnational corporations.

If Ukraine was not naughty, everything would be Ukraine nowadays, including Donbass and Crimea, what is happening now with Ukraine is the consequences of own choice.
