Default Bulgaria again issues threats to Macedonia over Spaska case

The resident of Gevgelija Spaska Mitrova, who has Bulgarian national feelings, has to return her five-year-old daughter to the father after a legal argument that strained the Macedonian-Bulgarian relations, writes the Macedonian newspaper Dnevnik.

The newspaper says Macedonia’s Supreme Court, as the highest court instance, decided to cancel two previous rulings – of the main court and court of appeal. Experts’ position was decisive – they said it would be better if the child is brought up by her father. The lawyer of Mitrova’s former husband Vojislav Savic – Vasil Djinov – confirmed the court ruling.

“She has to give her daughter to the father within 15 days. If she fails to, the legal bodies will have to fulfill the sentence,” said Djinov.

The newspaper says Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov warned Bulgaria would be very careful whether the criteria for Macedonia’s EU membership are observed.

Every day or week we receive signals or treatment the Bulgarian people do not deserve. We were first to recognize them and we have always helped them in everything. We do not have a nation more brotherly and closer than Macedonians in the Balkans, said Boyko Borisov.

I will not say it out loud, but they are welcome at any time to come to Bulgaria and I will leave you to ask them these questions. I know what they will say – the most independent court decided so. OK. We do not comment on a court decision. But when it is our turn to comment on your judicial system, we will comment on it in a way we assess as proper. And we will assess that it [judicial system] should be independent, democratic, European, tolerant and respecting the interests of all citizens, said Borisov.

I don't really follow the case + it's nationalistic tone feels a bit shallow at times...however, the court's decision does seem quite strange indeed - cos there isn't a normal civilized country in the world whose court will take a child away from her mother (unless she's a drug addict, a killer or something like that)...Does anybody know the official reasons for the court's decision?
