I know there are many of you who enjoy role-playing games. One notable series in the genre is The Elder Scrolls series. Within this series there are many, as in dozens, of developed races both playable and non-playable. Much of the lore of the series is based off real-world lore and religions; the Nords of Skyrim being an obvious example, but there are also some more subtle hints to Hinduism, Buddhism, and Christianity throughout the series as well. In addition, there is a facet of the lore that seems entirely foreign to anything found on Earth yet just as detailed.
In this context, races are pretty much mono-ethnic, so cultural traits are as important as physical features in deciding which race you relate to the most. I made sure I included all major races, including a few non-playable races that have had or still have a significant impact on the world of Nirn. I also limited my choices to mortal races, because obviously who wouldn't want to be a demi-god-like Daedra, Aedra, or Dragon?
Here is a history of the world of Nirn, which includes the formation of the races. It is far more detailed than this, though.
