I suppose by FeederOfRavens' logic, Americans are English in every sense. We speak the language, the English culture is alive and well in the U.S. and we have a Anglo-Saxon government structure. I would go as far as to argue Americans are more English than the Normans were French. Of course, many Americans don't have English blood in their veins, but most Normans didn't have French ancestry either - yet, they are still considered French.

Well, cheers to being an Englishman even though I have almost no English ancestry.

3,000 Scandinavians settled in Normandy in 911. In 1066 william invaded with an army of 8,000. No doubt the majority of these men had pre-norman frankish and gallo-roman blood. The ones that did have scandinavian blood where without doubt mixed with Frankish, Gallo, Flemish and Breton blood. The idea that vikings wiped everyone in Normandy upon their arrival is just silly.
