View Full Version : Could my cousin be distantly Native American?

sql

My cousin scores 0.99% Amerindian on HarappaWorld, and his AncestryDNA range is 0-<1% Amerindian, and he also shows up with Amerindian as his 5th closest population on AncestryDNA (after the 4 populations he already got). Would it be reasonable to say that he could have some distant Amerindian blood? What other GEDmatch tests should I look at? Should I get his dad tested?

Of course it's a very small amount, but what made me think it could be possible is, why would he be closer to Amerindians than to other Euro groups like Iberians, Italian, Finns, East Euros, even AJs, etc.?

Well perhaps somewhere along the line your cousin inherited, ancient Amerindian ancestry that carried genes if your ancestors have been here long enough colonially. Anything with Amerindian blood <1% is either noise or very distant ancestry if the calculations are consistent. The thing about genes is that such admixture doesn't "dissolve" via each generation because it will simply be more submersed (albeit at low quantities) by the next admixture you procreate with depending on who it is and such.

maybe because of ANE component, many fully euro's showing this admx. so your cousin most likely doesn't have an Cherokee grandmother, but if you will be sure about that, he must checkout this snp : D9S919 (http://www.isogg.org/wiki/D9S919)
post pls the MDLP K23b + Eurogenes Hunter Gatherer vs. Farmer results of him
for compare i score 0.35% Amerindian on K23b but 1.01% South American Hunter Gatherer on Eurogenes which is higher than the results of Chinese. if he show more than me than maybe he can be have Amerindian ancestry.
edit : also pls the Eurogenes_ANE-K7

It's definitely possible.

I think 23andme test would be best for that.

A Karitiana or Mayan would score 90-100% "American" on Harappa, so you can make a guess from there.

How much East Eurasian would be needed to indicate N A ancestry?

I didn't know Native Americans were East Asians...

I thought they were like Siberians, which isn't East Eurasia.
