1. Cyclades (should cluster with Athenians since fairly close in proximity).
2.Dodacanese (relatively East shifted)
3.Peloponnese (I often come up close to Macedonians, NW Greeks, Thessalians so this makes sense).
4. Chios (A lot of Sicilian which would make sense for Chios).
5. Macedonia (most Northern shifted)
6. ? (Not sure about this since it's pretty Central/North shifted) Could it be Cretan. I'm sure there are North shifted Cretans.
What calculator is this please? Thanks

Some of these are close. What I notice is of the results, both #2 and #4 are very close to some Sicilian regions. This would give them away as islanders but the question is which. I will tell you the answers later.

I'll give a hint. The Cretan and person from Chios are both shifting north and away from Sicily toward the mainland, while the Dodecanese and Cyclades results show more affinity to Sicily.

I have a number of Chios, a few Cyclades, and some Crete results showing this tendency, but all of the Dodecanese are Sicilian-like.

What I also notice is that many of the southern islanders get Sicilian West on this calculator, a Palermitan sample, over the Messina-based Sicily East. This might hint at the Levantine connection.

Flip these two around.

What is interesting is that we see some Cretans being closer to mainland and less so to Sicily, even though there are definitely Sicilian-Like Cretans, as we can see in any professional study, the two populations are considered close.

The other possibility is that there are Sicilians similar to #6 above (Cretan) but since I post mostly people from Palermo, I am not seeing them.

6 must be a Mainlander
Everything seem correct there as it has to be for Mainland tribesman.
Macedonian Greek seems close enough for Mainland tribesman and Albanian Tirano also pops up
though not realy close :)

5 is probably Macedonian than.

What confuses me about this calculator is why I have Siracusa as my number one population and NW Greece (quite close) as two. The Peloponnesian sample you've presented doesn't even have Siracusa in the top 10. Seems that it's a bit out of balance. Any explanations?

In general this is what i tried to explain often.

All these samples represent individuals from these particular regions.

They are not necessarily representative for the region as a whole.
I seriously doubt that every Cyclades Islander gets the result shown here but of course its possible without a problem in the
individual case.

I agree but I do think that some of these calculators are pretty flawed. I guess it attests to the randomness of this sort of thing when it comes to particular samples.

This on top of that.

Leave alone that such a genetic science to go calculator can never substitute the analysis and
work done by a human scientist.
