Would you be able to give me some working theories as to why my Melanesian count would be lower than hers? Would it be that I probably am more admixed with more recent Southeast Asian/Austronesian?
I don’t know how to structure my thinking on this.

Melanesia is very different from Polynesia.

Yes. Melanesia especially New Guinea has an Australoid population. Polys, I think are majority or fully east Asian by constrast.

I'll try looking around for some. Surprisingly I haven't seen a single certified Aboriginal Australian who's tested with 23andMe yet

My Moluccan (East Indonesian) mother's updated Ancestry results for comparison

Back before the update, she showed up as mostly "Melanesian" and "Polynesian",while the Polynesians I compared with we're mostly to all "Polynesian" pre update.I wish to see a Polynesians updated Ancestry results to see if it's changed, because apparently the "Filipino" category now is analogous with Austronesian, which is confusing.
Also,Polynesians,Micronesians, and Eastern Indonesians + some tribal Southern Phillipines all have Melanesian admixture to one degree or another, along with Denisovan admixture. This is what makes Pacific Islanders, well,Pacific Islanders imo.Polynesians are NOT fully East Asian Austronesian,or else they would be Filipinos or Taiwanese Aboriginals.Clearly, they arent.

From what I know and some Polynesian friends teaching,Tonga has close ties to Fiji and the closest ties and strongest admixture with Melanesia out of all the Polynesians, while Maori and Hawaiians the least Melanesian.Basically,Western Polynesians (Samoa and Tonga) by proximity and trade and intermarriage have the most Melanesian ancestry, while Eastern Polynesians like Hawaiian,Maori, and Tahitian have the least Melanesian and the strongest Austronesian traits.
Also, even though everything from even Eastern Indonesia to Fiji is considered ethnographically "Melanesia" and we are all Papuan admixed with Papuan haplogroups, the majority of us also do have both Austronesian genetics and languages/cultures.
Anyways,I plan on getting mama tested by 23andme as well. This Tongan gals' 23andme results closely mirror Mom's Ancestry results.
