View Full Version : Is this genetic "noise" on 23andMe?

According to 23andMe I am 0.3% Native American. It used to also say I was 0.2% East African but that went away entirely after an update. I'm wondering if there's any real way to know whether the 0.3% native is also inaccurate. It's such a small amount I wonder if it's just noise.

I have also done AncestryDNA and uploaded my 23andMe results to MyHeritage, DNA.LAND and other such similar sites and none of them picked up on any Native American ancestry. Only 23andMe says Native.

My father is French-Canadian which is the only thing that makes me wonder, because many French-Canadians have some degree of native ancestry.

Is there a good way to know for sure if it's just noise?

if you were from the old world i could have said it was noise (just as example 23 and me gave me as trace ancestry 0,1 Senegambian e Guinean pre beta and 0,3 Central and south asian post beta , and they're not even something vaguely similar between them) but since you are a new worlder it isn't absolutely rare to have small amounts of amerindian. gedmatch seems to confim it too.

That's what I thought too. I would have just assumed it's real but MyHeritage and AncestryDNA not picking up on it made me question

What are your entire results from Eurogenes? Where is your Jewish side from?

On my current version of 23andme (not beta, I specify), I get:
Angolan & Congolese
0.4%

And 0.3% of "Unassigned".

On Eurogene K13
Oceanian: 0.26 Pct (Which Disappears in 4-Ancestors Oracle Mode)
Subsaharian: 0.24 Pct (which disappears in 4-Ancestors Oracle mode)

On Eurogene K15
Ocenian: 0
Subsaharian: 0.17 Pct (which disappears in 4-Oracle Ancestors).

I don't get this subsaharian thing on Myheritage, FTDNA, DNA.

Same, nothing subaharian or "northeast african" on K36 ...

My father, he also gets on the beta version of 23andme: 0.3% of "Unassigned".

He gets on Eurogene K13:
1.46 Pct from Oceanian

On Eurogene K15:
1.17 Oceanian Pct

No subsaharian or northeast african in both cases.

The results of my cousin (female) who would share ancestors (a quarter or more) in common on the side of my Sardinian maternal grandfather and also who would share ancestors on the side "North of France" (because we have the same haplogroup maternal and my maternal grandmother is wholly native of France, except if the haplogroup that this cousin has is only by chance).
